Hair trends continue to move toward more natural styles in 2012, with a focus on hair that is beautifully imperfect. One of the keys to achieving this more natural look is to put down the flat iron.
“Women tend to over-straighten their hair,” says Greenwich stylist and salon owner, Becker Chicaiza. “They do it even to the point of snapping strands of hair off, which can lead to a tough time styling in the future.”
One solution is to embrace your hair’s natural wave. Using silicone-free, keratin-based shampoos and conditioners can help tame some of your frizz, while still giving hair body and bounce, for a tousled, straight-from-the-boudoir look.
If, however, you want to sport a sleeker, straighter style, Becker recommends using a styling product with heat protectant. “Applying this before the hair is straightened or blown dry can significantly reduce the effects of heat damage to your hair,” he says.
Straight or wavy, focus on keeping your hair healthy.
