FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Fairfield man was charged with attempting to break into a Greenfield Hill home while the resident was still inside Wednesday morning, police say. The suspect and two other men were then stopped in what police say was a stolen car not far from the home.

A Redding Road resident called police at about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday to report that a white male had just attempted to break the rear window of her home. She told police she saw the man run toward a silver car parked about 100 yards away.

Fairfield Police stopped a car matching that description on Bronson Road a few minutes later. A Department of Motor Vehicles records check showed that the car had been reported stolen out of Stratford, police say.

One of the three men inside was identified as the suspect in the attempted break-in by the homeowner, according to the police report.

Joseph Johnson, 25, of Oldfield Road, was charged with attempted burglary, possession of burglary tools, third-degree larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $20,000, and he is due in court on Feb. 9.

The two other men in the car, Shaun Kelly, 25, and Anthony Kelly, 26, both of Norwalk, were also charged with third-degree larceny. Bond for both men was set at $1,000 each, and they are also due in court on Feb. 9.
