FAIRFIELD, Conn.− A Norwalk man was charged with assault and a breach of the peace after an alleged attack on a woman in a Fairfield parking lot early Sunday morning, police said. Manoj Ramachandran, 34, of Day Street also violated a protective order by speaking with the woman, police said.

An employee at Walgreens on Villa Avenue called Fairfield Police at about 12:20 a.m. Sunday to report a woman had entered the story saying she was attacked in the parking lot by a man she knew. The victim told police she met Ramachandran in the parking lot, and during their conversation he grabbed her by the neck and slammed her face into the steering wheel, pulling out some of her hair in the process, police said.

An independent witness confirmed the victim’s account of the incident, police said. Police said they found Ramachandran walking along Kings Highway East near the scene of the attack. They also found he had two protective orders against him requiring him to stay away from the victim, according to police reports. He was held on a $10,000 bond and is due in court Tuesday.
