FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Christmas season might be over, but it’s never too late to recognize volunteers who are doing great things for the holidays. Two groups of students at Fairfield’s Notre Dame High School helped make the Christmas season brighter for the homeless of New York City and the youngsters of Bridgeport.

Members of the Lancers girls basketball team took a trip into New York on Saturday, Dec. 17. There, the girls met with a group of more than 100 homeless men and women at a shelter, and the girls helped distribute clothing and food to the shelter residents. Just before Christmas break began, students from St. Ambrose School in Bridgeport visited Notre Dame for a holiday party. The second-graders enjoyed a magic show by former Notre Dame teacher Jay Reidy and a visit from Santa. Each St. Ambrose student received a Christmas gift from his or her “big buddies” at Notre Dame. Theo Tumba, David Malvicini, Annie Dunn, Michael Martinksy, Rachel Shea, Alex Audet, Victor Olivares, Lauren Jones, Jennifer Mezzapelle, Maria Delgado, Spencer Bassett, Jasmine Fuller, Morgan Sweeney, Caitlin Lonergan, Sean Cronan, Shannan Williams, Michael Lenard, Margie Kuntz and Megan Pace helped put together the celebration.
