WESTPORT, Conn. – Sean Obi scored 16 points and grabbed 22 rebounds Friday to lead the Greens Farms Academy boys basketball team to its 10th straight win, a 73-42 rout of the Harvey School in a Fairchester Athletic Association game.

It was the 41st straight double-double for Obi, a junior center. Westport’s Brien Comey added 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Stamford freshman Zach Baines had 10 points and 12 rebounds. Tremont Waters dished out eight assists.

WESTON, Conn. – Alissa Hornung was thrust into a starring role as a coxswain for the Connecticut Boat Club when she was just a freshman. The Weston High senior not only survived, she also thrived. Now, she’s primed for one more run at a national title with the Norwalk-based club before continuing her career at the University of Virginia.

STAMFORD, Conn. – The Connecticut Yankees youth hockey club and Skyliners synchronized skating team have entered into agreements with Chelsea Piers Connecticut to serve as the training venue for both organizations.

The Connecticut Yankees will also expand the boys and girls AAA program from a spring/summer program to a year-round program and will field Elite AAA teams at all levels. The Yankees also plan to host showcase tournaments throughout the year at Chelsea Piers Connecticut, a Stamford-based sports and recreation facility scheduled to open in June.

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Fairfield County track and field athletes will head to New Haven on Thursday to compete in the league championships at Hillhouse High School.

The Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championships begin at 4:30 p.m. Danbury is the defending champion in the boys and girls divisions.

Both titles could change hands. In boys, Staples defeated Danbury to win the Western Division championships last weekend. Led by three victories by junior distance runner Henry Wynne, Staples outdistanced the Hatters by 53.5 points.

NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk-based Xtreme Cheer Blaze rallied from behind over the weekend to win the national title in the Platinum Athletic Championships in Providence, R.I.

The  Blaze, which has Fairfield County athletes up to age 18, were in third place after the first day of the two-day event. The Blaze won the competition with a big performance on Sunday.

The Blaze had to adjust its lineup when a cheerleaderler left the team late last week. Norwalk’s Sophia Buitrago, a late addition to the team, filled in admirably, coach Dana Talbot said.
